No transfer for less than £146m... Man City set to sign new midfield boss

Manchester City have a clear target in the midfield.

"Bruno Guimaraes, 26, Newcastle United, has caught the eye of Pep Guardiola ahead of this summer's transfer window," Spanish outlet Fichajes reported on Monday (Aug. 28).

City are one of the favorites to win the Premier League this season. After 28 games in the league, they have 19 wins, six draws, and three losses, giving them 63 points and a tight race at the top of the table.

The defending champions showed their class in Europe. City cruised into the quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie against Copenhagen on Sunday.

It's not without its anxieties. Their reliance on Rodri, 27, is overwhelming. In fact, City's performance has dropped significantly in games without him.

Finding a new midfielder has become a challenge for City. With Calvin Phillips (28) likely to leave the club outright this summer, it's imperative that they find someone to take some of the pressure off of Rodri.

Man City have set their sights on Guimarães, and according to reports, they have joined Real Madrid and Chelsea in showing interest in signing him.

Guimarães is considered one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Since joining Newcastle in 2022, he has caught the eye of the world with his wide vision and accurate kicking.

He has already established himself as an integral part of Newcastle's core. This season, he has three goals and seven assists in 40 games across all competitions, making him an indispensable part of the Magpies' squad.

He's also expanding his presence in the Brazilian national team. A member of the Brazilian national team since 2020, Guimarães played 79 minutes in a friendly against England on Sept. 24.

City's interest in Guimarães is 토토사이트 not a surprise. Guardiola is said to be a fan of Guimarães' versatility and tenacity this season.

The chances of a move happening are somewhat open. In a recent interview, Guimarães said: "I am very happy playing in the best league in the world. But a transfer is another goal of mine," he said in a recent interview, hinting at a possible move.

"Newcastle will not allow Guimarães to leave unless a record-breaking offer comes in," says Fichajes. This would require a transfer fee of more than 100 million euros ($146 million)," said Fichajes.
