🎸 Early Years / Hybrid Theory (2000)
Don Gilmore – Producer of Hybrid Theory. He helped shape and refine song structures, arrangements, and vocal takes, though the core writing stayed within the band.
The band themselves (Shinoda, Bennington, Delson, Bourdon, Farrell, Hahn) were very self-contained, so outside writing was minimal at this stage.
🎶 Meteora (2003)
Again, Don Gilmore returned as producer and contributed to arrangement and refinement of lyrics/melodies.
Still largely written internally by the band.
🎛️ Minutes to Midnight (2007)
Rick Rubin – Co-producer. Rubin is known more for stripping things down and offering direction than writing lyrics/melodies, but he definitely influenced the songwriting approach.
Andrew Shimkus & Mark "Spike" Stent – Engineers/mixers who occasionally contributed arrangement insights.
Band began experimenting more, with Shinoda and Bennington opening up to outside feedback.
🌐 A Thousand Suns (2010)
Rick Rubin returned as co-producer, again shaping conceptual and structural elements.
No major co-writers outside the band.
🔥 Living Things (2012)
Rick Rubin still in the picture as co-producer.
The band leaned heavily on Mike Shinoda’s production/writing — few if any outside songwriters.
⚡ The Hunting Party (2014)
Emile Haynie (producer/songwriter) – Co-wrote Final Masquerade.
Daron Malakian (System of a Down) – Co-wrote and played guitar on Rebellion.
Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) – Added guitar work on Drawbar, though not a co-writer of lyrics.
🎤 One More Light (2017)
This album had the most outside co-writers in Linkin Park’s history:
Justin Tranter – Pop songwriter (Selena Gomez, DNCE). Co-wrote Heavy.
Julia Michaels – Pop songwriter/artist. Co-wrote Heavy.
Eg White – Co-wrote One More Light.
Jon Green – Co-wrote Battle Symphony and Nobody Can Save Me.
Francis White (Eg White, same person, often credited differently).
Andrew Goldstein – Worked on Sorry for Now and Talking to Myself.
Blackbear (Matthew Musto) – Co-wrote Sorry for Now.
Ross Golan – Co-wrote Talking to Myself.
✅ Summary
Hybrid Theory → A Thousand Suns: Almost entirely written by the band (with producers like Don Gilmore and Rick Rubin giving guidance).
The Hunting Party: Some outside musicians (Daron Malakian, Tom Morello, Emile Haynie).
One More Light: Multiple mainstream pop songwriters brought in, a big shift from their earlier self-contained process.
Do you want me to make a chronological list of every outside credited co-writer per album (like a clean reference sheet), or do you prefer the era-by-era breakdown I just gave?
